Tesla-powered Porsche 912: Vintage meets electric

This 550-horsepower 1968 Porsche 912 is getting all of its power from an unexpected source: the electric motor from a Tesla Model S P85. It was made by two Southern California shops, Zelectric Motors and EV West, which convert old Volkswagens and Porsches into modernized electric cars. It’s a new way to rescue aging vintage cars — though not everyone is happy with the idea.

Porsche is a German automobile manufacturer specializing in high-performance sports carsSUVs and sedans. Porsche AG is headquartered in Stuttgart, and is owned by Volkswagen AG, which is itself majority-owned by Porsche Automobil Holding SE. Porsche’s current lineup includes the 718 Boxster/Cayman911PanameraMacan and Cayenne.

Tesla was founded in July 2003, by engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, under the name Tesla Motors. The company’s name is a tribute to engineer Nikola Tesla. In early Series A funding, Tesla Motors was joined by Elon MuskJ. B. Straubel and Ian Wright, all of whom are retroactively allowed to call themselves co-founders of the company.
