Peter Brian Gabriel (born 13 February 1950) is an English singer-songwriter, musician and humanitarian activist who rose to fame as the original lead singer and flautist of the progressive rock band Genesis.[1] After leaving Genesis in 1975,[8][9] Gabriel launched a solo career, with “Solsbury Hill” his first single. His 1986 album, So, is his best-selling release and is certified triple platinum in the UK and five times platinum in the U.S.[10][11] The album’s most successful single, “Sledgehammer“, won a record nine MTV Awards at the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards and remains the most played music video in the history of MTV.[12]

Gabriel has been a champion of world music for much of his career. He co-founded the WOMAD festival in 1982.[13] He has continued to focus on producing and promoting world music through his Real World Records label. He has also pioneered digital distribution methods for music, co-foundingOD2, one of the first online music download services.[14] Gabriel has also been involved in numerous humanitarian efforts. In 1980, he released the anti-apartheid single “Biko“.[13] He has participated in several human rights benefit concerts, including Amnesty International‘s Human Rights Now!tour in 1988, and co-founded the Witness human rights organisation in 1992.[13] Gabriel developed The Elders with Richard Branson, which was launched by Nelson Mandela in 2007.[15]

Stranger Things is an American supernatural horror web television series created by the Duffer Brothers. It is written and directed by Matt and Ross Duffer and executive-produced by Shawn Levy. It stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, and Matthew Modine. The plot follows the disappearance of a young boy, and a telekinetic girl who helps his friends in their search, while the boy’s older brother, mother, and the town police chief start their own investigations.[2][3]

Stranger Things is set in 1980s Indiana and is an homage to ’80s pop culture,[4] inspired and aesthetically informed by the works of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, Stephen King, and George Lucas, among others.[5][6][7][8][9]

Stranger Things was released on Netflix on July 15, 2016. It received positive reviews for its characterization, pacing, atmosphere, acting, soundtrack, directing, writing, and homages to 1980s genre films. On August 31, 2016, Netflix renewed the series for a second season of nine episodes, to be released in 2017.
